Wroclaw One of the most beautiful cities in Poland, situated on the Oder River, Wroclaw is also known as the “City of a Hundred Bridges”. Because of its bridges, streams and canals, it is also referred to as the “Polish Venice”. Wroclaw is also a bustling university-city, with close to 130 thousand students enrolled in its higher-education institutions. Worth a visit in the old-city is the former market-square (Rynek); its Gothic style Town-Hall and the decorated facades of the middle-class dwellings are worth viewing.  Wroclaw Main Market Square and Old Town Hall Also worth a visit is the city’s “Cathedral Island” (Ostrow Tumski) - formerly the core of the city – at the centre of which a Gothic style cathedral, dating from the 13th-16th centuries, can be found. For those interested in more recent architecture, the “Centennial Hall”, erected in 1913, is considered to be the world’s first reinforced-concrete building; it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2006. One of Wroclaw’s biggest tourist attractions is the “Raclawice Panorama” – a monumental 114m x 15 m painting depicting the Polish uprising against the Russian army in 1794.  Wroclaw Old Town |
