Kalwaria Zebrzydowska

Located among the hills of the Wadowice Upland, about 30 km west of Krakow, Kalwaria Zebrzydowska is the second centre of pilgrimage in Poland, after Czestochowa. Kalwaria Zebrzydowska is a Bernardines Monastery complex with a baroque church and famous Calvary paths with churches, chapels and monuments.

The construction of the monastery and the Chapels, based on the Way of the Cross of Jesus in Jerusalem, started in the beginnings of the 17th century.

Every year thousands of pilgrims and tourists visit Kalwaria Zebrzydowska. The famous church fairs combined with processions and the Passion mystery plays attract a lot of people. Kalwaria Zebrzydowska was placed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1999.
