Białystok locates in the northeast part of Poland, about 70 km from the Belarus border. Białystok is the administrative and industrial center of the region. The Białystok historical centre dates from the 18th century.

Białystok’s town hall standing in the market square was built in the Baroque style and today it houses a local museum. The neo-classical St. Nicholas Orthodox church with precious icons was built in the mid 19th century.

Białystok’s most popular monument is the late-Baroque palace, which was built in the 18th century by the Branicki family. The palace suffered huge damages during the II. WW but it was reconstructed according to its 18th-century shape. Its park complex consists of a French style and an English landscaped park sections. The palace houses the Medical University, now.
